This page contains the Harihar (Chitradurga District) section from B. Lewis Rice’s (1906) list of British graves in Mysore. Eventually I hope to post his entire book of inscriptions, but now I must settle for cemeteries and graves in the region where I work.

7571842DuvalSacred to the memory of Ensign David Duval, 35th Regiment N. I., son of Captain Duval, H. M. 81st Foot, who was drowned in the Herah Nuhlah near Hurryhur on the 23rd day of July A. D. 1842, aged 20 years 6 months and 14 days. This monument is erected by his brother officers and friends as a tri­bute of affection and regret for his untimely fate.
7581844SeniorSacred to the memory of Captain F. S. Senior, 35th Regt. N. I., who de­parted this life on the 10th July 1844, aged 41 years. Deeply regretted by his family and brother officers, by whom this monument is erected as a mark of their affection and esteem.
7591844SprySacred to the memory of Philip Lane Spry, Brevet Captn. and Adjutant 35th Regiment N. I, who died of cholera at this station on the 25th day of November 1844, aged 34 years, most deeply and sincerely regretted. This tomb is erected by his brother officers in testimony at their sense of his worth and their respect for his character and virtues.

7641858JenningsSacred to the memory of Mary Ann Leeds, the beloved wife of W. Jennings, Band Master, 16th Regt. M. N. I., who departed this life on the 4th Decr. 1858 at Hurryhur, aged 21 years, deeply regretted by her husband, father, mother, and two dear children. The just shall live by faith.
7651859MacKechnieIn memory of Lieutenant Donald MacKechnie, 16th Regt. M. N. I., who died at Hurryhur on the 19th January 1859, aged 32 years 7 months and 9 days. Deeply regretted by his brother officers. This monument has been placed over his remains by his afflicted widow.
766-71959LambertSacred to the memory of Susan and Nancy, the beloved daughters of Philip and Mary Ann Lambert of the 16th M. N. I., who died of cholera on the 20th and 21st January 1859, the former aged 8 years and 8 months, and the latter 10 years and 6 days. They died in peace. Happy are the dead who die in the Lord.

Rice, B. Lewis. (1906) List of European Tombs and Monuments in Mysore, with the Epitaphs and Inscriptions Thereon. Bangalore. (OIOC R/2/17/106) — Rice compiled his list at the request of the Mysore government, which was impressed by such recent publications of Cotton (1905) on the Madras tombs. To his very great credit, Rice recorded and published all graves in the European cemeteries, not just those of the rich, famous, or unusual.
